MHS Employees of the Month

Gregg Tully

MarCom was recently asked to produce a video tour of MHS to be included with a grant application. The deadline was tight, and there were a number of projects going on simultaneously, but Gregg was prepared to do what was necessary to make it happen. The requirements for the video were very specific which made the task even more challenging. A script had to be written, many people coordinated, and of course, the video had to be shot, edited and transferred to the appropriate format. Gregg changed his availability to accommodate other’s schedules, worked additional hours and, in the end, produced the video ahead of schedule—all while keeping on top of his other responsibilities.

Additionally, Gregg has introduced MHS to the world of social networking. MHS now has a YouTube and Facebook page. Our Facebook page boasts 26 visitors – and counting. And MHS has consistently been ranked one of the most visited non-profit sites on You Tube.

Thanks for completing these projects with a winning attitude and a great deal of skill.

Gail Ellis

As you know, we just finished our 2008 summer camp and had approximately 250+ children attend.  This year’s camp was a great success and it was due entirely to Gail hiring great camp counselors, getting wonderful junior volunteers to help and Gail’s expertise when she works directly with the children.

Our camp lasts for nine weeks with a new group coming in each week and 3 extra camp sessions added in conjunction with the regular camp.  This is a long time to keep up your energy working with young children.  The kids not only get to meet animals and interact with them, but they learn about our programs and are educated in many areas of animal care and handling.  By having this many children pass through our campus we are reaching all areas of Marin and new families are constantly being introduced to MHS.

Thank you for your diligence and hard work!

Michelle Rogers

Sergeant Michelle Rogers worked passionately behind the scenes to help a severely neglected elderly Horse go from rags to riches. From start to finish not only did Michelle do a phenomenal job in handling an extremely difficult neglect case, she also dealt with the reality of working with a very serious mentally ill horse guardian.

Through Michelle’s intensive efforts and wonderful case follow-up we were able to seize the neglected horse and bring it to the safety of MHS. In the face of much adversity, Michelle managed a flawless case and easy seizure. Her efforts resulted in three separate charges against the horse guardian.

On August 18th the defendant pled guilty to animal neglect and will accept an appropriate sentence for five years that will not only prevent her from getting another horse, but will also provide her with much needed psychological help.

The horse was ultimately adopted to a very loving home and is doing great.

Thank you for a job extremely well done in the face of adversity!

Marketing/Communications Volunteers

The Internet has proven a very popular way to connect adopters with Marin Humane Society shelter animals!

Thanks to organizations like Petfinder.com, Adopt-a-Pet.com, Virtual Pet Adoptions and Pets911, MHS adoption animals are visible to tens of thousands of online visitors every year. On these websites, every participating shelter and rescue organization gets a place to post animal photos and bios, and contact information for their shelter. Visitors to these sites can view animals in the database by type, size and age.

Considering that dozens of new adoptable animals become available at MHS every week, uploading their information onto these websites can be labor intensive. In fact, at one time this task took up almost an entire day for a Marketing Communications staff member!

But not any more – thanks to our new Marketing Communications volunteers!

After a call for help, several enthusiastic volunteers came to the rescue. They met with the Marketing Communications department for training and then coordinated a weekly updating schedule amongst themselves. These hard-working volunteers are also wonderful at giving feedback – perhaps it’s time for a new photo of Fluffy, or an updated description of Fido…these little tidbits are very helpful for promoting our adoption animals.

Thanks to these volunteers hard work, the Marin Humane Society is able to benefit from free online advertising to promote our adoption animals. And the Marketing Communications department is grateful for several extra hours to dedicate to ongoing projects.
