MHS Employees of the Month

MHS Foster Care Coordinator Sam Pascoe has been juggling so many foster animals this past month, including many kittens, moms with kittens, neonate kittens, pups with medical issues such as eye removals, leg removals, demodex mange, dogs with behavior rehab needs, and even guinea pigs.

When 9 day old kittens arrive without mom, she knows who to call to get them to safe haven for around the clock feedings. They have to come in for vaccines during their foster time, and she arranges the times with fosters. She coordinates their return for spay/neuter and follows the animals' progress through to the adoption department.

As of this writing, there are 80 animals in foster care!

MARIN COUNTY FAIR VOLUNTEERS

The week of July 4th is always a big one in Marin County.  It is the week of the annual Marin County Fair.  Thousands of people from around Marin County and the Bay Area come to the fair to enjoy wonderful exhibits, music, food, carnival rides and evening fireworks.

This year, MHS decided to participate in the fair for the first time by having a booth displaying photos and information about our programs and services.  We needed about 30 volunteers to help staff the booth during the 12- hour days through the holiday week and weekend.  When the call went out for volunteer help, volunteers eagerly stepped up to help.  The 4-hour shifts filled quickly – we were going to the fair!

Our 10’ x 10’ foot booth was filled with information about our programs and services, photographs of the animals, and a beautiful computer display running a show of all of the animals currently available for adoption.  We had stickers and coloring books for the kids, coupons for free microchips, samples of organic dog food and treats, and a drawing for a basket of dog treats or cat treats.

But, by far, the highlight of the booth was the volunteers.  They spent hours chatting with passersby, making new friends for MHS, answering a wide variety of questions and listening to so many wonderful “adoption success” stories from the public.  The volunteers shined as ambassadors for the Marin Humane Society.

We would not have been able to have a presence at the fair without our volunteers support and energy.  It was a great week for MHS and we look forward to this being an annual event on our calendars.  Thank you all so very much!
