Mr. Simmons
3-year-old
Neutered Male
Mr. Simmons is in foster care but would love to meet you. Contact adoptions at
(415) 506-6225 to learn more about him.

Handsome Mr. Simmons is a big lug of a lovable cat! He's a friendly fellow who enjoys head rubs, neck scratches and the feeling of a brush running through his hair. He doesn't enjoy having his hind end handled, however - he has a healing pelvic fracture that makes him a bit sensitive back there (please read his vet notes for more information). We know he'd love nothing more than to spend his day curled up in a sunbeam or, better yet, on your lap!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with high school age children or older

Candy
1-year-old
Spayed Female
Candy comes to us because her prior family no longer had the time to take care of her. Candy is social and confident and enjoys people; however she is very particular about how you pick her up -- not from the rear! And she likes her toenails long, not clipped, if you please! If you can respect Candy's handling limits, you'll be rewarded with an appealing and friendly young cat.

Edwina
1-year-old
Spayed Female
Edwina is a beautiful, but quite shy, white princess. She is cautiously curious and may take some time to look for your warm lap. She would love to be your only cat in a calm home, as the hustle and bustle of an active family will not suit her.

pete
Pete
3-year-old
Neutered Male

Pete is a sweet, dignified guy who needs someone to shower him with love. He takes his time in getting to know you but then will show his affection by butting his head against you or letting you hold his more than ample self. Right now he's somewhat scared and is a master at scampering away and trying to shrink his solid frame into as small as space as possible. Tolerant and gentle, Pete is an adorable armful. Wave a wand toy in front of him and his ears perk up and eyes brighten, showing interest in playing. You should have lots of fun shedding the holiday pounds together in the new year.

Ting-Ling
6-month-old
Spayed Female

Ting Ling came to us from Yolo County as part of our Pet Partnership Program.  She is a very active and talkative little girl. She loves to be where the action is and isn't afraid of anything. She was fostered with two young dogs and enjoyed getting licked and sharing their doggie beds. She loves playing with toys and will even play fetch with a small ball or scrunched up piece of paper. After she's had some play time she enjoys a good snuggle and will be sure to impress you with her tiger sized purr. This little girl is a sweet and exuberant kitty who will be sure to bring a smile to your face everyday.

Lover Boy
2-year-old
Neutered Male

Lover Boy has been very busy this year. He came to us from a Central Valley shelter, went to live with a new guardian but alas came back to find his perfect home. This sweet, handsome boy is a little nervous and confused about his surroundings. He would prefer to be in a calm, quieter environment with older children. He lived with another cat but neither one wanted to share their food. At this point in his life, being the only animal to receive all your attention, would be ideal! Lover Boy is ready to settle down in his forever home. This purr-fect gentleman deserves another chance. What a great way to start the new year.

Jupiter
8-year-old
Neutered Male

Jupiter is a sweet, shy tabby who is ready for a new start in life. Adopted from the Marin Humane Society as a kitten, Jupiter lived in a quiet adult home for the past eight years until his owner became hospitalized and eventually had to move into a residential care facility. For the past three months neighbors have been caring for Jupiter in his home, but he hasn't had the comfort of human companionship for quite some time. So now Jupiter has come to us to find the perfect family for the rest of his life. We think Jupiter will do best in a fairly quiet household, with older, respectful teens or adults only. He's a little shy to begin with, but once he's comfortable in a new space, he comes out to greet you, purring and talking quietly. Jupiter lived indoors only and enjoyed watching the world go by from his kitty condo perch. He's still quite playful, and particularly likes catnip pillows and toys on a string. Jupiter had free access to his cat food, and it would be better if his new guardian places him on a lo-cal diet and restricts his dining to mealtimes. If you can give Jupiter a safe, enriched environment and a warm lap to sleep on, this sweet boy will reward you with his constant companionship and devoted affection.

Fluffy
12-year-old
Spayed Female

Beautiful Fluffy is a bit out of sorts at the moment... her family had to move and couldn't take her with them, so now she's looking for a nice, quiet place to call home. Fluffy may be in her golden years, but this lovely girl has plenty of love to give! Fluffy's gorgeous long coat will require regular grooming - fortunately, she enjoys being brushed, so this will be a nice way for you to spend time together. She doesn't really appreciate more invasive handling, however, and would like to go into a home with older, respectful children who will be gentle with her and give her space when she needs it. Fluffy is a quiet, calm girl who is sure to bring a lot of joy to your life!

Samantha
3-year-old
Spayed Female

Samantha is a confident girl who knows what she likes and doesn't like in life. She wants to be your only cat, but she's confident enough to live with a polite dog. She wants to rub up against you and make you her treasured possession. And while she enjoys plenty of petting and attention, she does have her limits. Grooming should be done in short sessions, and she prefers that you stay away from her bloomers. An experienced cat owner who can read "cat" is just the right match for Samantha.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with adults only

Mr. Baby Boots
7-year-old
Neutered Male

Mr. Baby Boots' former family is surely missing him. Unable to keep him they describe him as outgoing, relaxed, friendly, playful and affectionate. We think so too. His pet pal friends here at MHS say he is so happy for attention he rubs up against his companions and rolls over on his back for a belly rub. What a charm! Mr. Baby Boots is looking for his next and forever home and offers the best recompense: love and affection. Meet Mr. Baby Boots today!

Duffy
3-year-old
Neutered Male

Duffy is looking for a home to grace with his considerable charms. If you are looking for a substantial cat with a fondness for laps, Duffy is your guy! We feel with proper introductions he will fit into a home with children, he might even enjoy another cat for company. The dog might take a while to gain Duffy's affection, but given time he might just learn to accept a friendly dog. Some active games, with wand toys will help Duffy shed the pounds he has gained while he was a guest at our shelter.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with grade school age children or older

Oscar
8-year-old
Neutered Male

This Oscar is no grouch - shelter life is a bit much for him right now, but we know that there is an affectionate lap-cat hiding in there somewhere! His previous owner let us know that he is mellow, friendly and loving - a total sweetie. He lived with a dog off and on with no problems and may be able to do so again, provided that the dog is respectful and that all introductions are done very, very slowly. We don't know how he is with other cats, but he may be okay. If you give Oscar time to warm up and get comfortable in his environment, we're sure that he will soon come out of his shell and find his way onto your lap!

Ideal Home: Best in any household with adjustment

Trixie
7-year-old
Spayed Female

Trixie has lots to tell you about life. How it's not fair that she was surrendered after living with her family for seven years; and how the other resident cats were beating up on her and making her life miserable! So now she finds herself at the Marin Humane Society, hoping someone will take pity on her situation. During her evaluation Trixie vocalized almost constantly - with plenty of meows and grrrrrs, too. This girl lets you know what she thinks! Her prior owners report that she's affectionate and social - when she's in the mood. And she likes being cuddled in the evenings before going to bed to sleep with you under the covers. We think Trixie has definite opinions about life, and if you and she agree, she might just be the purrfect match.

Johnny
8-month-old
Neutered Male

Be good and adopt Johnny, the beautiful flame point. This young fellow, who's sweet as sweet can be, had a rough time at his previous place of residence because the other cats didn't take a shining to the newcomer and picked on him. So he'd really like a new home. That's not to say he doesn't like other four-leggers - it wasn't him, after all, who picked the fights. But the decision to introduce him to others would have to be deliberated. Known to be playful and friendly, he adores hanging out in sinks - he looooovvvees sinks, according to his previous owner. So please have one at his disposal (no pun intended). And, although he loves being held and pet, his belly is off limits...period.

Boogie
1-year-old
Spayed Female

A Reubenesque beauty, Boogie has at least 2 New Year's resolutions; find her forever home and regain her svelte figure. This shy girl has lived well as an indoor cat with other cats and a dog. Although initially withdrawn, we think that given time and patience this formerly feral cat will warm up and let her affectionate nature shine through. She is young, sweet, gentle and easy to handle, but just a little overwhelmed here at the shelter. Boogie would like nothing more than a quiet home to call her own with kindly folks to love her and give her the exercise and food portion control needed to help those excess pounds disappear. Are you the one to help her achieve her goals? You will be rewarded with a lifetime of love and companionship.

Sarah
2-year-old
Spayed Female

Lovely Miss Sarah was found on the streets of Novato, and adopted but alas was returned when her family had to move. She is a sweet, calm, gentle young gal, who promises to be playful when she finds the right family!  She needs a routine combing to keep her silky fur healthy and shiny. This won't be a big chore as she enjoys the attention. We feel Sarah will be a fine addition to a family with children, given some initial supervision.

Nubbins
18-month-old
Neutered Male

Once upon a time two cats came to live in a small house. In fact it was so small their owner was not able to keep them, so Beanie and Nubbins came to stay here at MHS. Nubbins wants you to know that even though Beanie is shy, he really does love to cuddle. Beanie wants you to know that even though Nubbins has no back paws he still climbs and jumps like a normal kitty. We want you to know how devoted these two cats are to each other. Anytime one became stressed the other would go to his side to comfort and cuddle with him. Beanie and Nubbins need to be indoor only cats. We suspect Beanie might run away and Nubbins' lack of back paws makes it difficult for him to out run any danger, if they are let outside. They will most likely thrive in a quiet home, with understanding people who want some very affectionate cats to love. Don't you want to help Beanie and Nubbins live happily ever after?

Silvio
9-year-old
Neutered Male

It's hard to believe this beautiful boy was a stray from Novato. We think Silvio once had a home then for whatever reason, he had to fend for himself finding people to feed him. Luckily a good samaritan brought him to our shelter. Silvio was so scared here, we decided a loving foster home would be the best way to find out more about him. His foster mom was very patient and let Silvio take his time getting to know her. Once trust was established, their relationship flourished! Silvio is a very mellow, loving companion who is perfectly content just hanging out with his human. The best home for Silvio would be calm and quiet with no children. Don't let his shy demeanor here at the shelter deter you from getting to know Silvio better. He deserves a chance to be happy! Be sure to ask adoptions to read the journal his foster mom wrote about him, it includes lots of valuable tips on how to win Silvio over.

Leslie
6-year-old
Spayed Female

An armful of Leslie? You can't get any better than that. This gorgeous, fuzzy tuxedo cat is gentle and sweet but somewhat bewildered at what the Fates have wrought. So, she will need a loving, peaceful home where she can spread her wings - OK, her paws - and regain trust in the human race. You just know she'll be a love bug. But she's a little shy right now, verging on the fearful: She's definitely keeping her tail between her legs. However, it's nothing that a good tall cat condo, nutritious meals and a warm lap won't solve. Leslie is more - more love and companionship in 2010.

Odie
4-year-old
Neutered Male

What a beauty! Meet Odie, an Exotic Shorthair kitty who was recently rescued from a multi cat situation. If you are looking for a mellow guy, a bit shy, but also quite communicative, check him out. He may take a bit of time to settle into your home but with patience we feel Odie will bloom into a fine companion and great lap cat. Once home, please give him lots of latitude to explore and a quiet, out-of-the-way place to eat, sleep, and use his box. Then watch Odie's sterling personality shine through!
