LB

Niko
15-month-old
Spayed Female, 42lbs
Border Collie

Niko is in foster care. Arrange to meet her by contacting adoptions (415) 506-6283.

Niko has lots of potential. She probably had some experience with several leash corrections, so she is scared that it will continue to happen. Her defense is to jump on you and put her mouth on you. She needs a lot of persistent patience and needs to learn to trust you to get her past this. She is a bit of an independent girl for a herding dog, so again patience and continual training will pay off. She can become a great dog with an experienced owner who recognizes her sensitivity. She tends to have the bossiness of a herding dog without many social skills when with other dogs, not a great combination for dog parks. If you think you have the necessary attributes, ask about meeting her in her foster home. This is a dog that will pay off in the long run.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Rosebud
6-year-old
Spayed Female, 6lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Rosebud is in foster care. Arrange to meet her by contacting adoptions (415) 506-6225.

Rosebud's guardian was unable to care for her any longer and now she is looking for a calm home where she can settle down and enjoy life. Because Rosebud is frightened here at the shelter, she is being cared for in a loving foster home. Sweet little Rosebud is looking for the right family to help her bloom. Rosebud's foster family members are her biggest fans and describe her as sweet, playful and sassy. Ask to see what Rosebud's foster family wrote about her ... she just might be the little flower you've been looking for!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Blue
5-year-old
Neutered Male, 58lbs
Siberian Husky Mix

Stunning, no? This very striking dog could be a Siberian Husky/Australian Cattle mix, or he could be an Alaskan Malamute/Australian Shepherd or he could be any combination of the above. Suffice it to say, that he probably has a strong Northern dog heritage and some herding dog in his family tree. Both Malamutes and Huskies are very special types of dogs so do your breed research. They can be independent and strong willed, while the herding mix brings high energy and a love of work. At any rate, Blue's new owners will need to be an experienced dog owners. Blue is extremely social with people and loves petting, cuddling and hanging out. He is very tolerant and gentle as well.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Rosy
1-year-old
Spayed Female, 10lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Rosy is on trial adoption!

Little Rosy was found wandering the streets in Novato and was really trying to figure out why her world had been turned upside down. She was quite shy and reserved when she first arrived at the shelter so we felt she would be a good candidate for our Pen Pals of San Quentin Program. During her time there, she became a different dog. She is now very outgoing, lively and self assured. Rosy is an energetic young dog who will require plenty of exercise. Rosy is social with other dogs but can be a little overwhelming with other small dogs. That said, she may make a good second dog in the household provided she is well matched with the resident dog. Rosy is fully housetrained and crate trained. Rosy is a happy, energetic dog who is guaranteed to keep a smile on your face. If you are looking for a happy small dog, take a look at Rosy, she may be your perfect match!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Ringo
1-year-old
Neutered Male, 60lbs
Queensland Heeler Mix

Ringo is one of those dogs who feels responsible for his whole world.   When he's with the people he trusts, and in an environment he trusts, he is very nice, sweet and personable.  However, he gets worried about strange dogs - especially when he's on his own territory - and will need a lot of environmental controls, structure, and training to reach his full potential. Ringo will do well with experienced guardians, who understand the herding dog temperament!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Ralphie
3-year-old
Neutered Male, 16lbs
Border Collie Mix

Ralphie found his way to us through our Pet Partnership Program all the way from Central California SPCA. This cute little number is "Mister Personality" and is just full of himself. He is a very confident young lad and is fairly convinced that any toy and delectable treat that he comes across is his to keep; in fact, he will prove his point if necessary. He gets along well with all other dogs, but if you have another dog in the house, we suggest that you not allow chews or toys around them when they are together. Ralphie does like to play and once you teach him that the game will stop if he doesn't share his toys, he will most likely be a fun and enthusiastic playmate. Although this young fellow is ready to rule the world if allowed, he is also a bright, cheerful lad and will be quick to learn. If Ralphie is given clear and consistent guidelines, he should be a great little sidekick, willing to join with you in almost any adventure and return all the love you have to share with him.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with adults only

Molly
1-year-old
Spayed Female, 10lbs
Jack Russell Mix

Molly is active, curious, charming, and looking for a special family. She would prefer a fairly quiet house with a nice routine. Although she does not yet know how to play with toys and squeakies, her new family can teach her and this is a good way for her to get the exercise and mental stimulation she needs. Molly is not housetrained so provide her with a crate and confine her when you first bring her home until she learns the routine. She is going to need exercise everyday and would enjoy taking a Small Dog I class to learn some manners. Molly is quite clever and likes to learn new things. She would make an amusing and loving companion for a family who wants to be entertained by this delightful little dog.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Diamond
2-year-old
Spayed Female, 14lbs
Dachshund Mix

Diamond is a jewel found in Fresno by MHS's Pet Partnership Program. Not only beautiful, she is sweet and smart. If you look Diamond in the eyes, you will melt. Be careful that you don't let her spoil you! She will do best with a family that can set up consistent rules so that she will know what to do. Although she may get on with some gentle but firm adult dogs, right now Diamond has conflicting feelings about hanging out with other dogs. We think this is from lack of experience. Imagine your daily interludes of time with Diamond, a walk in the park, a little practice of the tricks your have taught her, and an evening spent brushing her flowing locks and cuddling on the sofa.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Sonja
4-month-old
Spayed Female, 21lbs
Pit Bull Mix

Pretty little Sonja came to MHS a very scared, overwhelmed little puppy. While she has begun to come out of her shell, it is clear she will need an experienced guardian who will continue to socialize her appropriately and show her that the world is a fun, safe place to be. With positive experiences she is improving, and her adopters will need to continue this process so she can learn to trust people of all shapes, ages and genders. She does seem to genuinely like people and this will go a long way in helping her. All in all Sonja is a very sweet, smart little puppy that in the right home will blossom into a loving and fun companion. If you have the experience, patience and dedication to give her, she just might be the dog for you.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Othello
9-month-old
Neutered Male, 67lbs
German Shepherd Mix

Othello comes to us as an unclaimed stray. He is a sweet but very energetic adolescent dog who will require a lot of exercise as well as training and structure. He will do best with an experienced adopter who can give him the leadership he needs to develop into a great companion. Othello loves fetching tennis balls. This is a wonderful way to burn off some of his excess energy. Three work-outs per day would be perfect for him. Othello likes other dogs but needs to learn some manners when playing. He is an exuberant player and may be too overwhelming for some dogs. His new adopter should choose his play-mates carefully and supervise playtime. Othello is a wonderful adolescent, who given an experienced, consistent adopter should become a great lifelong companion.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Remy
9-month-old
Spayed Female, 46lbs
Pit Bull Mix

Remy is on trial adoption!

Remy would be a perfect match for an athletic household. She's built for speed and endurance, and could keep up with any runner. Remy loves people - perhaps over-enthusiastic might be an appropriate word - and she also loves other dogs. When she's with dogs, she tends to overdo everything - she can be overly bossy, overly rough and overly submissive. Some of this behavior comes from her breed heritage, but most of it is just pure Remy. Remy's previous owner indicated she was afraid of strangers and traffic, although we didn't see these behaviors. Remy requires a pre-adoption consultation before she can go home. With the right family she will make a wonderful lifetime companion.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Dahlia Marie
10-month-old
Spayed Female, 12lbs
Poodle Mix

ADOPTED!

Cubby
2-year-old
Neutered Male, 15lbs
Pekingese Mix

Cubby is in foster care. Arrange to meet him by contacting adoptions (415) 506-6225.

Somehow Cubby got himself lost, but now he has found himself ready for a new home. This guy is very affectionate, cute and funny. He loves people, especially sharing a lap or sitting next to them on the sofa. Cubby seems to think that the grass is always greener on the other side. His new family should be careful that he can't bolt from doors and that he is on leash outdoors or in a securely fenced area. He is not a dog who could spend the day outside in the yard. We have seen that Cubby, while walking on leash, is quite reactive to other dogs. Talk with one of our Behavior Staff to get some tips on handling this. If you would enjoy walking a dog every day for 45 minutes, teaching him some very cool tricks to perform for your friends, enjoy affection as well as great entertainment, Cubby is waiting for you.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Stella
2-year-old
Spayed Female, 88lbs
Labrador Retriever Mix

If you have been looking for an active, high-spirited companion, this may be the girl for you. Stella has a youthful way about her, which is not surprising for an exuberant Labrador, Great Dane mix. She is going to need strong management, leadership, and training on your part to turn her into your dream girl. Stella is looking for an experience dog savvy household who can handle her effervescent personality and energy level. She needs to learn to channel this enthusiasm when meeting other dogs, and will need careful introduction to ensure that she plays appropriately. It is best that Stella get her exercise interacting with you. Remember "a tired dog is a happy dog". If you love running, hiking, jogging, playing Frisbee at the beach, she is your girl. Stella is a big goofy, love and wants nothing more than to be your lifelong companion.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Zeus
1-year-old
Neutered Male, 77lbs
Labrador Retreiver Mix

Zeus is a big, friendly guy with a big attitude. Zeus needs an adult household with strong, fair leadership, as he might tend to take over if left to himself. His previous family loved him, but he was too much for the children of friends - we are recommending families with kids over the age of 16. Zeus would benefit from a lot of exercise, as well as consistent training. He wants to be good; he just hasn't quite mastered the particulars (though he will fetch the paper!) A consult is required for this big fella.
