Behavior & Training

Keeping People and Pets Together

Voted "Best In Marin" by the Pacific Sun and "Best of the North Bay" by the North Bay Bohemian, the Marin Humane Society offers a variety of animal behavior services, including up to 35 training classes each week, as well as private lessons and behavior consultations. Among our specialized classes are sessions for senior handlers, for small dogs, and for dogs who show aggression towards other dogs.

Behavior consultants are available by appointment to answer any animal behavior questions. Dogs adopted from MHS within the past year receive one complimentary session. Cat guardians are also welcome to seek advice, but please leave your feline safely at home. Averaging more than 50 calls a day — 3,000 calls a year — this busy department provides strategies for success with your pets.

For obedience class registration or animal behavior & training information, contact Behavior & Training or call (415) 506-6280.

Available in The Marin Humane Society Pet Store is Dog Sense, a Marin Humane Society publication written by Behavior & Training Director Trish King. Dog Sense is the perfect companion for the MHS training classes and is written in an easy-to-understand format. Part 1 covers "The Canine Contract." Part 2 concentrates on "Problem Solving" and Part 3 focuses on "Training." Dog Sense is available at our Animal Outfitters Pet Supply Store for $10.
