2008 Student Volunteer Opportunities

The Marin Humane Society is a great place to volunteer! It’s a place where you can learn a lot, make new friends and have tons of fun, all while making a positive impact on the lives of animals and on the environment both here in Marin and throughout the world. If you are interested in joining one of the following programs, download the application form and mail it by January 18 to the address at the bottom of the form.

5th and 6th Grades: Animal Care Club

This club introduces kids to the Marin Humane Society’s programs and to general animal care concepts. Students work on volunteer projects to help our shelter animals in a group setting every other Thursday from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. $30 activity fee per semester.

7th and 8th Grades: Roots and Shoots

As part of a global youth community service program started by Dr. Jane Goodall, our Roots & Shoots club works on projects to help animals and the environment both here in Marin and throughout the world. Group meetings are held every other Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. $30 activity fee per semester.

9th and 12th Grades: Senior Roots and Shoots

A more advanced version of the above program, this group is for high school students and meets on alternate Wednesdays from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. $30 activity fee per semester.

Student Interns/Volunteers
High school students may volunteer for 2-4 hours per week in various departments around the shelter through our internship program. All interested teens must attend the Student Intern Orientation in September. After the orientation, those students who are committed to interning for the semester must attend (2) four hour training sessions before being given an internship assignment. Students will be expected to complete an end of semester project based on their experiences. Students interested in continuing their work may apply to become an ongoing volunteer at that time. $30 activity fee per semester.
