Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer at Rickey’s Restaurant & Inn Marin
An afternoon of food, fun and frivolity with your dog to benefit the Marin Humane Society
(NOVATO, CALIF., July 27, 2005) Treat your canine companion to a doggone good time at the Dog Days of Summer, a benefit hosted by Rickey’s Restaurant & Inn Marin for the Marin Humane Society’s Pen Pals of San Quentin program. The event takes place Sunday, August 14, from 11 pm - 3 pm at Rickey’s Restaurant & Inn Marin (250 Entrada Drive, Novato), and promises something for every member of the family to enjoy.
Dog Days of Summer will offer many opportunities to showcase your pet’s talents. Friendly pooches can lick to their heart’s content in the Best Kisser contest and don their Sunday best to compete for the title of Best Doggie Costume. You can join your best friend for the dog/owner look-alike contest and then spoil her with a soothing dog wash. The event also will feature delicious food and drink from Rickey’s Restaurant, face painting for the human kids, a performance by “Musical Paws” (the popular MHS dog dance troupe), a chance to “Ask the Behaviorist,” and much more.
Meet The Pen Pal “Parolees”
Dog Days of Summer will benefit the Marin Humane Society’s new Pen Pals of San Quentin program. This program teaches specially selected inmates how to help dogs overcome social problems before they return to the Marin Humane Society to enter the adoption cycle. While the dogs are nurtured and trained, the inmates experience the reward of helping others. Since the program was launched in May, 2005, seven dogs have started serving lifesaving sentences at San Quentin; three of these dogs have already been “paroled” and adopted into loving families. Meet the recent parolees, Gabby, Sandy and Smokey, as they make a special guest appearance at the Dog Days of Summer event.
The admission price of $10 per dog includes two tickets that are redeemable either for participation in events or for food and drink. Reservations are appreciated; for more information, call (415) 883-9477.
