Learn to Train and Tame Your Companion Bird
Marin Humane Society to Host Free Bird Care Seminar
(NOVATO, CALIF., June 1, 2006) - Every year, thousands of birds are relinquished to shelters when frustrated guardians discover they do not have the proper skills or knowledge to care for them. Local rescue organization, Mickaboo Cockatiel Rescue, will present a Bird Basics seminar Saturday, June 10 from 10 am to noon at the Marin Humane Society (171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd., Novato). The seminar is appropriate for anyone considering adopting a bird, and is also an excellent resource for bird guardians who have questions about their bird's behavior.
Bird Basics will address proper avian care and diet, symptoms of illness and first aid, general husbandry, taming and training, and much more. “Choosing to share your life with a companion bird is an important decision that requires considerable education,” says Morgan Lance, MHS humane education coordinator. “Bird Basics was designed to give bird guardians, and those thinking of adding a bird to their family, the tools they need to create a successful and lasting bond with their new avian friend.”
Mickaboo Cockatiel Rescue is an organization of volunteers in the Bay Area who care for birds who are sick, injured, stray or abandoned. Through educational seminars, Mickaboo shows caregivers how to build a positive, respectful relationship with their fine-feathered friends.
