The Marin Humane Society turns 100 and everyone's invited to the big BIRTHDAY BASH!

Fun for the whole family - Fido too!

(NOVATO, CALIF., May 2, 2007) — It’s the Marin Humane Society’s 100th birthday! Families, friends and their canine companions are all invited to celebrate at the MHS Centennial Birthday Bash Sunday, June 3 from 10:30am–3pm on the Marin Humane Society campus (171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd, Novato). The festivities will include fun-filled activities for kids and pups of all ages. Entry to the event is free of charge.

Showcase your pets’ talents in the Best Canine Crooner and Largest and Smallest Dog contests, and then spoil them with a soothing dog wash. Bring your children to the Kid’s Zone, complete with jumpy jumps, games, a photo booth and art projects. Watch canine flyball, frisbee and agility demonstrations, observe Search and Rescue dogs do their thing, meet farmed animals and bring your questions to “Ask the Vet” and “Ask the Behaviorist.” Have your pet’s portrait done by a local caricaturist, listen to live music by Stan Kane and his Dixie Cats, check out the pet-related exhibits, enjoy tasty food and drink from local purveyors — and save room for a piece of the not-to-be-missed Centennial birthday cake!

"It’s our 100th birthday and we want to celebrate with the people and animals who are the heart of our work,” says Diane Allevato, MHS executive director.

Birthday festivities will start with an optional Centennial Dog Walk around Bel Marin Keys starting at 10am to raise money for the shelter animals. The registration fee for the walk is $25 and those who register by May 8 will receive an event t-shirt and goody bag.

The Birthday Bash is open to the public and there is no entry fee. For more information about the Bash or the Dog Walk, please call (415) 506-6265 or go to www.marinhumanesociety.org.

Major sponsors of the MHS Birthday Bash include the Marin Independent Journal, Fetch the Paper, Bank of Marin, Pet Food Express and Hill’s Science Diet.
