Bird Basics Workshop
October 6, 10 amnoon, free
Presented by Maggie Rufo of Mickaboo Rescue, this class is perfect for anyone who is considering adopting a bird. It's also a great resource for new bird guardians who have questions about their pet's behavior. To register, please call (415) 506-6288.
100th Annual Celebration and Open House
Sunday, October 7, 2 4 pm, free
This year’s festivities are particularly special as it's the Marin Humane Society’s centennial! Attendees will have an opportunity to meet new MHS Executive Director Neil Trent, enjoy a parade of adorable adoption animals, congratulate award winners and enjoy tasty refreshments. MHS will award a Special Humanitarian Award to Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, UN Messenger of Peace, which will be accepted on her behalf by Bill Johnston, CEO of the Jane Goodall Institute. The Marin County District Attorney’s Office will receive the Community Service Award for its outstanding efforts to prosecute animal cruelty cases.

Cat Care Conference

World-renowned cat behaviorist, Betsy Liscomb, and co-presenter, Adam Bauknecht, both of Cats International, will share practical solutions for preventing and solving common feline behavior issues, and also debunk myths regarding feline behavior. Introduction to Animal Communication
October 20, 10 am2 pm; $85
In this hands-on workshop, animal communicators Marta Williams (author of Learning Their Language and Beyond Words) and Lisa Hartnett will demonstrate how animal communication works and introduce beginning techniques for communicating with one’s pets. Attendees will do simple exercises with animals they don't know, and learn how to have intuitive conversations with their own companion animals.
Attendees are asked to leave their animal companions safely at home and bring a photo of any pet with whom they wish to communicate. Pre-registration is required by calling (415) 506-6288.
Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth From the Cattle Rancher Who Won’t Eat Meat

An engaging speaker whose life has become a book and a movie, “Mad Cowboy” Howard Lyman is the fourth-generation family farmer from Montana who changed his life after a medical crisis, a journey that led him into the world of organic agriculture, veganism and politics and the Oprah Winfrey show! (It was Lyman’s appearance on the show that led to the unusual lawsuit against him and Oprah for allegedly disparaging the beef industry, a claim that was ultimately dismissed.) Now living in Alexandria, Virginia, this former director of the “Beyond Beef Campaign” and the HSUS “Eating with a Conscience” Campaign, travels more than 100,000 miles a year as a speaker and lecturer.

Pet First Aid & CPR
October 27, 9 am1 pm; 26 pm; $50
Presented by the American Health and Safety Institute, this hands-on workshop teaches basic lifesaving techniques, including basic pet first aid, CPR training, rescue breathing, restraint and muzzling, choking management, poison response, and much more.
Pet guardians may register for one of two sessions. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by calling (415) 506-6288. Please leave animal companions safely at home; stuffed "demo pets" will be available for hands-on training.
