MHS photographer wins American Humane's 2006 Pets & Pals Photo Contest™ — Dakota Fanning was a celebrity judge

Famous baked beans spokesduo, Jay Bush & his talking dog Duke, will present award in Novato Oct. 18

(NOVATO, CALIF., October 12, 2006) - Sumner Fowler, the Marin Humane Society’s longtime staff photographer and photographer for the book Best Friends, has won awards in two of the five categories of the American Humane 2006 Pets & Pals Photo Contest™, sponsored by Bush’s Baked Beans. Fowler took the Grand Prize in the Shelter Life category for his “Sleepy Pup” photograph (see attached), and also won the “Down on the Farm” category for his photograph of a pig, entitled “Sing a Happy Song.” Fowler’s photographs were chosen out of thousands of entries. The panel of celebrity judges included actresses Dakota Fanning, Jenna Fischer and Raven-Symoné.

The baked beans spokesduo of Jay Bush and his talking dog Duke, along with a representative from American Humane, will travel to the Bay Area to present Fowler and the Marin Humane Society with the award and a $5,000 prize package. The award ceremony will take place Wednesday, October 18 at 3pm at the Marin Humane Society (171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd., Novato).

American Humane's annual Pets & Pals Photo Contest highlights the many important roles animals play in people's lives and celebrates the bond between people and their animal companions. Founded in 1877, the American Humane Association is the oldest national organization dedicated to protecting both children and animals.
