WHISKERS ON WHEELS: A full month of animal rescue

Marin Humane Society brings 150 dogs & cats from Central Valley for a fresh start

If you've been thinking about adopting a new companion into your family, now is an excellent time.

From now through mid-February, the Marin Humane Society will save as many as 150 dogs and cats from the overpopulated Central Valley in its fourth annual Whiskers on Wheels rescue event. Each week, MHS will travel to Madera County to relieve their chronically overcrowded shelter of its adoptable animals in order to give them a new chance for a loving home.

“Our adoption kennels are bursting with adorable animals,” says Sheri Cardo, MHS public information officer. “The Madera shelter is known for having especially wonderful animals: small dogs, large dogs, puppies, cats and kittens -- even purebred animals.”

After health and behavior evaluations, and spay or neuter surgery, the Madera animals are made available for adoption at the Marin Humane Society. With the extra demands on the shelter, donations of blankets, towels, crates and cash are especially welcome and can be dropped off at the shelter at 171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd, Novato, CA 94949.

To learn about the animals available for adoption, please go to www.MarinHumaneSociety.org or call the adoption hotline at (415) 506-6214. New animals will become available every day, so check back often!

Whiskers on Wheels: A Full Month of Animal Rescue is a special event of the ongoing MHS Pet Partnership Program. The pioneering Pet Partnership Program of the Marin Humane Society transfers adoptable dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters to Marin to serve as part of a regional solution to the pet overpopulation problem. In Marin, there is a greater demand for companion animals than there are animals available. Since 1997, by partnering with dozens of overloaded shelters in Northern California the Marin Humane Society has taken in and found homes for more than 5,000 Pet Partnership animals.
