AB 2110 Open Field Coursing

Update:
May 25, 2006:
Much to our disappointment, AB 2110 did not make it out of the Appropriations committee in the State Assembly.

On February 5, ABC News (KGO-TV, San Francisco) ran a special investigative report on a blood sport called Open Field Coursing. The report featured a coursing event held in Solano County.

In open field coursing, greyhounds, and sometimes other breeds, are set loose in fields to kill wild rabbits. The dogs are specifically trained and rewarded for tearing the rabbits apart. Inevitably, the rabbit dies a terrifying, painful death - purely for entertainment!

The Marin Humane Society voices its grave concerns about setting dogs on rabbits for sport. We oppose this barbaric practice, and fully support legislation to close the door on open field coursing. AB 2110, introduced by Assemblymember Loni Hancock (D - Berkeley), would outlaw open field coursing and make it a misdemeanor punishable by six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both.

How you can help:
If you agree that open field coursing should be prohibited in California, please contact your local Assemblymember and give them your support.
