The Marin Humane Society would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support during Operation Tiny Teacup! We are fortunate to be part of a community that cares so passionately about animals. It is because of your support that we are able to save the lives of so many animals in need.

To date, we have received more than 700 adoption applications and are unable to accept additional applications at this time. However, we have many wonderful dogs who would love the opportunity to meet you and show you all they have to offer.

Our primary need is for financial contributions so we can purchase supplies to house, feed and provide medical care for these dogs. To donate, please click here. If you prefer to donate offline, checks made payable to the Marin Humane Society will be gratefully accepted.

Please note: Be sure to designate "Tiny Teacup" in the comments or on your check.

We appreciate your support!

Operation Tiny Teacup

Background:

About 800 small dogs, including Chihuahuas, Japanese Chins and Chinese Crested were seized from a mobile home in Southern Arizona on Wednesday, March 12. An elderly couple, who were apparently overwhelmed trying to care for the animals, were breeding the dogs for sale. Authorities at the Southern Arizona Humane Society described the living conditions as one of the worst they’ve ever seen.

“The Southern Arizona Humane Society is a small shelter with very limited housing and resources to handle the magnitude of this case,” says MHS animal care director Kim Lanham-Snyder. “We are dedicated to helping our friends in Tucson and anticipate a great response from our dog-loving Bay Area community.”

Marin Humane Society staff transported approximately 100 dogs and arrived in Novato on Friday, March 14.

Foster:

We currently have a sufficient number of foster homes for this particular rescue, however, if you are interested in being a foster parent for MHS, please call (415) 506-6267 ... there are plenty of opportunities!

Supplies:

These dogs are, well, on the small side, so we are in good shape in terms of supplies such as towels, crates etc. All of these dogs, however, will need to be spayed or neutered and some will need medical treatment. More than anything, financial contributions will enable us to provide for these dogs.
