Animal Care Technician

Broad Function: The Animal Care Technician is responsible for providing high quality, humane animal care; maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the kennels and related areas; evaluating animals for adoption; and presenting a positive and professional image when working with members of the community.

  • Full-Time - 34 hours per week
  • Starting Salary: $16 per hour. Benefits*
  • Position open until filled


Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide humane care for all animals in the Society's care

  2. Identify, vaccinate, and kennel animals as needed

  3. Clean and disinfect all animal areas as necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary environment

  4. Feed and medicate animals under our care

  5. Evaluate animals for adoption

  6. Assist the public in locating lost pets

  7. Unload, store and restock Animal Care Department supplies

  8. Perform euthanasia in accordance with Society policies and California laws

  9. Dispose of deceased animals

  10. Perform light maintenance and other janitorial duties

  11. Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers

  12. Provide assistance to other departments as assigned

  13. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a positive public image, enhance the operation of the organization and improve the quality of life for animals

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Accumulated knowledge of and compassion for animals
  3. Ability to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds
  4. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer keyboarding skills (data entry)
  5. Minimum two years experience working with animals, either personal or professional
  6. Good written and oral communication skills
  7. Possession of valid California drivers license and good driving record
  8. Rabies Immunization required (provided by MHS)
  9. Must be available to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays
  10. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  11. Capable of working both independently and as a member of a team
