Animal Care Technician
Broad Function: The Animal Care Technician is responsible for providing high quality, humane animal care; maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the kennels and related areas; evaluating animals for adoption; and presenting a positive and professional image when working with members of the community.
- Full-Time - 34 hours per week
- Starting Salary: $16 per hour. Benefits*

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide humane care for all animals in the Society's care
- Identify, vaccinate, and kennel animals as needed
- Clean and disinfect all animal areas as necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary environment
- Feed and medicate animals under our care
- Evaluate animals for adoption
- Assist the public in locating lost pets
- Unload, store and restock Animal Care Department supplies
- Perform euthanasia in accordance with Society policies and California laws
- Dispose of deceased animals
- Perform light maintenance and other janitorial duties
- Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers
- Provide assistance to other departments as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a positive public image, enhance the operation of the organization and improve the quality of life for animals
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Accumulated knowledge of and compassion for animals
- Ability to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer keyboarding skills (data entry)
- Minimum two years experience working with animals, either personal or professional
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Possession of valid California drivers license and good driving record
- Rabies Immunization required (provided by MHS)
- Must be available to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Capable of working both independently and as a member of a team
