Extra Special Adoption Animals
All of our adoption animals are special and most will settle comfortably into a variety of homes. Some adoption animals, however, are extra special because they have medical or behavioral needs that require they go to a specific type of home in order to thrive.
Often, these extra special animals are cute as a button and lots of people want to adopt them based on their photos alone. But these animals are complicated and The Marin Humane Society is committed to placing each of them in homes that fully understand the animals’ special needs and are willing and capable of meeting them.
Unlike our normal adoption process, which is handled largely on a first-come, first-served basis, extra special adoptions require extra special homes. These cases are managed in a way that ensures that the animal is adopted to the most appropriate home possible from a pool of candidates.
For further information about adopting an extra special adoption animal, or to schedule an appointment to see an extra special adoption animal, please call the Adoptions Department at (415) 506-6225.

Mariah is a special dog! She needs a very patient, loving human who’s willing to work with her. She LOVES other dogs, she's friendly to cats, but hasn’t had much experience with people. Because she learns well from other dogs, she needs a friendly dog to help her to adapt to her new home and continue to learn to feel comfortable with people. Mariah isn’t aggressive, but she’s nervous until she gets to know you, and she’s sensitive to sudden sounds and movements. She is house broken, crate trained, and great at walking on a leash.
Ideal Home: Best in adult only home
