Agility for Fun 1

Graduates of FD3 or with instructor approval. Teach your dog to go through tunnels, climb obstacles, go over jumps and more! Non-aggressive, dog friendly dogs only - dogs must be at least one year old and in good health! $150 for 6 weeks.

Agility Foundation Training

Think that you have a dog who would be good at Agility? This is a fun class for dog friendly dogs over 1 year of age to learn how to playfully interact with their handler while maintaining focus and control. Begin your Agility Training by learning the essential foundation skills required before obstacle training. Groundwork will include front and rear crosses, turning on the flat and working at your side, sending and recalling your dog along with emphasis on the "team relationship" between you and your dog. Pre-requisite Family Dog 1.

Agility Foundation Training for PUPPIES!

Does your puppy want to play? This is a great class for puppies under 12 months who have completed Beginning Puppy class, particularly if you think your dog may one day enjoy the sport of Agility. Begin your Agility training by learning the essential foundation skills required before obstacle training. Groundwork will include front and rear crosses, turning on the flat and working at your side, sending and recalling your dog along with emphasis on the "team relationship" between you and your dog. Class size is limited to 4 puppies to enable personalized attention. Pre-requisite is Beginning Puppy.

Agility Run Throughs

Summer practice sessions for Intermediate and Advanced Agility for Fun-level students. These are independent practice periods using MHS equipment setups with instructor oversight. Separate pre-registration and payment of $15 fee required for each session.

Tricks

Graduates of Family Dog 1 or equivalent. Attendance at the first class meeting is mandatory. Teaching your dog tricks is a great way to strengthen your relationship with your dog and build your dog's focus on you - and it's great fun, too! In this class you will learn fundamental behaviors that can be combined to create complex tricks suited to your dog, as well as a variety of ready-made crowd pleasers! $150.00 for the series. (Classroom)

Workshop: After Eights!

For dog-friendly senior dogs about eight years or older, or dogs slowing down for medical or other reasons. Graduates of Family Dog 1 or equivalent--if it was a while ago, it's OK! Learn mind-stimulation games that keep life fun for dogs who don't jump as high as they used to, as well how cues like touch, wait, and go-to-bed can help you and your senior dog through medical appointments, treatments, or just the aches and pains of every-day life. We'll also introduce you to canine massage. Pre-registration and $35 are required to reserve a spot for this workship, which is limited to 10 dogs. (Pavilion)

Workshop: Clicker Training & Learning Theory

This workshop explores training and learning theory using a clicker. Do you already use the clicker and want to add some theory? Or, have you always wanted to find a way to incorporate the clicker into your training program, but just needed a start? This workshop is for you! Join Trish King as she combines theory and practice in a practical, entertaining two hour workshop. Pre-requisite is Family Dog 3. $40

Workshop: Crate Training (Free!)

These one and a half hour FREE workshops teach you how to crate train your puppy or adult dog. Crates help your dog establish good habits and prevent the formation of destructive habits. They are an excellent house training tool and can be used in many behavior modification programs. Crate training is a must for both perfect and problem dogs. Come learn all about crates with us! Limited to 8 dog/handler teams and 15 auditors.

NO FEE, but you must enroll ahead of time. We only have AUDIT (handler only, without dog) spaces left in the December workshop, but there are working spots available for the January session (first come, first serve) workshop. If you are an auditor (attending without your dog), please enter AUDITOR as the dog's name during the web registration process or enroll via telephone at 415/506-6280.

Workshop: Dog & Cats, Living in Harmony

Helping Fido and Fifi live happily together. Do you have a dog and want a cat? Are you owned by a cat and want a dog? Or are you already living with both? Come to our workshop and learn behavior modification techniques for both Fifi and Fido, helping you toward a happy peaceful home. Looking at your home through the eyes of your dog and/or cat, we will figure out successful strategies for one and all. Limited to 8 owners with dog-friendly dogs, cat owners encouraged to attend...but Fifi will be happier at home. Dog/handler teams can sign up on the web or call 415/506-6280. Cat owners need to call 415/506-6280 to sign up. Pre-registration is required and is $35 with pet or $15 to audit without pet.

Workshop: Dog Park Survival Skills

Do you have a dog who likes to play with other dogs? Or, a dog that you *think* wants to play with other dogs, but you just aren’t sure if the dog park is the right place for you? Come to this two hour workshop and learn the good, the bad and the ugly on dog park survival skills. We will discuss canine social skills in general utilizing written material and observed interactions in the workshop. You will also get feedback on your dog’s canine social skills and recommendations on what types of activities are best for YOUR dog. This workshop will held in the Marin Humane Society Dog Park. $40 fee for two hour workshop.

Workshop: House Manners

Did you know that there is a management solution for almost every behavior problem? The most difficult times for dog owners are when you first adopt a dog or when you have a puppy turning into an adolescent. This is the time when House Manners are critical and having the right tools can keep you sane! Get some terrific tips in this "stay sane" workshop. $35 for a two hour workshop limited to 10 dog/handler teams. No pre-requisites.

Workshop: Howl O Ween

HOWL-O-WEEN Small Dog Workshop HOWL-O-WEEN fun for dogs! Trick and Treat!!! Join us with your canine friend to celebrate the day with a Howl-o-ween party for small dogs. Get ready to Bob for bones! Hop through hula hoops! Join the Jack o lantern jump, and learn the Mummy march! We will have fun while 'working' on the small agility equipment incorporating games and exercises to help your dog gain confidence, increase attention on you and learn some fun new skills. Open to 12 lucky dog friendly dogs under 30 pounds. $35 fee We will end the day with a costume parade, complete with pictures and prizes. Winners to be featured on the MHS website.

Workshop: Loose-Leash Walking & Recalls

Graduates of Family Dog 1 or equivalent. Spend an afternoon learning a variety of creative and practical excercises to help your dog walk politely on leash and come when called. Pre-registration and payment of the $35 fee are required to reserve a spot for this workshop, which is limited to ten dogs. (Pavilion & Lawn)

Workshop: Obedience Tune Up

Does life sometimes get too busy to spend time working on your dog's obedience skills? If so, then it's time for a refresher course: an Obedience Tune-Up!

This 2-hour workshop is not meant for untrained dogs or dogs with behavior problems; it is meant to get your dog back on track and improve the obedience training he already learned and forgot. We will work on the more challenging behaviors: coming when called, walking on leash without pulling, no jumping on people, sit and down stay, wait and leave it.

For graduates of FD1 or SD1. Pre-registration and payment of the $35 fee are required to reserve a spot in this workshop.

Workshop: Odor Recognition Test Prep

Is your dog currently enrolled in one of our Scenting classes? Have you considered participating in the Marin Humane Society’s NACSW Odor Recognition Test (ORT) or have you already registered for the Marin Humane Society’s NACSW ORT that’s being held on December 17, 2011? If you answered yes to any of the above, you may be interested in enrolling in one of our ORT Preparation workshops. The workshop will walk you through the ins and outs of an official NACSW ORT and offer you suggestions on improving your handler skills. You will not only be able to practice having your dog locate and identify the target odor, you will be able to watch while other handlers work with their dogs. After the workshop, each participant will receive a video of their dog searching. $35 fee for working spot (with dog), $15 to audit (without dog). Pre-requisite is Scenting For Fun 2. Note: Please bring a crate and be prepared to crate your dog when not working.

Workshop: Rainy Day Games!

It is pouring rain outside and your frisky canine companion needs to work off some energy. What to do? Come join us to learn fun games that exercise your dog’s body & mind and keep you both dry! Did you know that mental work/games can exhaust your dog more quickly and thoroughly than a walk outdoors? Pre-requisite FD1 or SD1 and dog friendly dogs only. Pre-registration and payment of the $35 fee are required to reserve a spot in this two hour workshop.

Workshop: Scenting For Fun

Emphasis on fun! This introductory workshop will give your dog the opportunity to work at something he "nose" how to do naturally, as well as help build his confidence and his relationship with you. Your dog must be comfortable in a crate, as all dogs must be crated when they aren't working. $35 for working spot with your dog (sign up on the web) or $15 for audit spot without your dog, call (415) 506-6280 to sign up.

Workshop: Small Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun!

Using the small agility equipment, have fun with your small dog or puppy while learning new skills. Your dog won't even realize that she is "training" Come and learn how to spice up your training routine with your little friends! Small breed dogs (<25lbs) only. There are no pre-requisites for this class, but you need to bring your shot records and lots of yummy treats. Puppies okay, but small breed only and must have two sets of shots. $35 fee

Workshop: Two-fers

Are you owned by more than one dog? Is canine chaos a part of your daily routine? Walking multiple dogs a challenge? Try our Two-fers workshop which is designed to address training, management and exercise for the multiple dog household. Pre-requisite is Family Dog 1 for both dogs. Dog friendly dogs only. One handler, two dogs. $50 fee.

Workshop: Woofs and Whinnies

Help take the surprise factor out of meeting horses on the trails! With the generous help of the volunteers and the equine residents of Marin Stables (139 Wood Lane, Fairfax, (415) 459-9455), we are offering a hands-on workshop to help make encounters with horses less stressful for you, your dog, the horse and the horses' riders. We will be meeting real horses, taking care to provide a safe setting for the success of one and all. Open to 8 dog friendly dogs who have completed Family Dog 1 or more... and their friendly humans. Pre-registration and payment of the $35 fee are required to reserve a spot for this workshop.
