Train And Tame Your Companion Cockatoo
Marin Humane Society Hosts Cockatoo Care Seminar
(Novato, Calif., August 12, 2005) Homeless birds crowd shelters across the country because frustrated owners do not have the skills necessary to care for them. The sweet, cuddly, but mysterious, cockatoo is no exception. A local rescue organization, Companion Parrot Connection, will present its Cockatoo Care Seminar Wednesday, August 24, 2005, from 7- 9 pm at the Marin Humane Society (171 Bel Marin Keys Blv., Novato). The seminar is appropriate for anyone considering adopting a cockatoo, and it is also an excellent resource for new guardians who have questions about their cockatoo’s behavior.
The Cockatoo Care Seminar will address the special needs and hidden behaviors of cockatoos that often take new owners by surprise. The seminar will clarify differences between members of the cockatoo family and other parrots, identify behavior issues unique to cockatoos, such as feather plucking and self-mutilation, and teach guardians how to enhance the quality of communication with their pets.
Companion Parrot Connection, founded in 2002 by rescue management and rehabilitation expert Coleen Doucette, rescues homeless parrots and adopts them into caring, knowledgeable homes. Through educational seminars and personal consultations, Companion Parrot Connection shows caregivers how to build a positive, respectful relationship with their feathered friends.
The cost to attend is $15. For more information or to register, please call 530-237-6283 or visit www.parrotconnection.org.
