(NOVATO, CALIF., January 31, 2008) — The Marin Humane Society is celebrating February as Adopt-a-Rescued Rabbit Month. Every year thousands of bunnies are relinquished to shelters and rescue organizations or dumped outdoors where they cannot survive when their guardians decide they no longer want them.

Adopt-a-Rescued-Rabbit Month draws attention to the fact that after cats and dogs, rabbits are the third most likely animal to find themselves needing a new home. On any given day at the Marin Humane Society, there are at least a dozen rabbits available for adoption.

“Rabbits make excellent companions,” says MHS bunny evaluator Suzanne Gollin. “They are friendly, curious animals who enjoy attention and can get along well with other animals. And, they can be trained to use the litterbox!”
