Give Your Beloved Pit Bull A Valentine's Present!Fix your Pit for free March 2 at the Marin Humane Society (NOVATO, CALIF., February 2, 2007) The Marin Humane Society will spay and neuter pit bulls and pit bull mixes of Marin residents for free on Friday, March 2 as part of the Bay Area Pit Fix Day. Several shelters around the Bay Area are currently taking appointments for the free surgeries with the goal of curbing the problem of pit bull overpopulation. As part of this special program, the Marin Humane Society will also provide free vaccines in advance and a free microchip. The shelter is located at 171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd., Novato. There are numerous benefits to fixing your pittie: Spayed and neutered pit bulls are generally healthier, are less likely to run away, exhibit less aggression toward other dogs, and won't contribute to the tragic pit bull overpopulation problem. “A pit bull who is spayed or neutered will make a much better pet,” says Sheri Cardo, public information director, Marin Humane Society. “If you have an unfixed pit bull, give your dog a Valentine's present and make an appointment for Pit Fix Day.” Appointments must be made in advance. Each shelter has its own intake requirements. To participate in Marin, dogs must be healthy, five years or younger and vaccinated. To schedule, please call (415) 506-6268. For non-Marin County residents, please call 1-877-4-PIT-FIX (1-877-474-8349) for the participating shelter in your area. |
