 In addition to the Marin Humane Society’s role as a non-profit animal shelter, we also have a contract with the County of Marin to provide the county’s animal services. Marin residents can count on the support of our Animal Services Officers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is also a self-service night receiving kennel at the shelter that is always available.
Last year, Animal Services Officers answered 3,462 emergency calls and responded to an additional 3,025 calls for assistance. They also investigated 1,400 complaints. Services provided by MHS Animal Services, include:

MHS Animal Services will follow up on citizens’ complaints about animals. Follow these steps to file a complaint.
Our stray animal hotline is updated every night after 6 p.m. and includes animals brought to the shelter during the previous 48 hours. You can also search lost and found pets online.

Dog licenses are required by law for all dogs over the age of four months who live in Marin County.
Marin County has an ordinance requiring that all animal businesses obtain special operating permits through our Animal Services Department. From dog hobbyists to commercial animal establishments, animals are ensured proper care under the regulations set forth under these permits. Euthanasia
We understand that the decision is difficult and we will do our part to make your pet’s passing gentle and pain free. All animals are euthanized by a certified Animal Care Technician with a painless injection of sodium pentobarbital. Owners are not present for the procedure.
