Humane Education

Research shows that children who are taught to be kind towards animals tend to mature into compassionate adults. At the Marin Humane Society, we are delighted to share our ethic of compassion with members of our community, especially youth.

We believe humane education is more than just learning about pet care or preventing neglect or abuse. It raises awareness, respect for others, animals and people, and engages children by empowering them to make humane choices.

Our Humane Education department reaches out to thousands of Marin children and teens every year with on-site and outreach presentations to schools, community service opportunities, after-school clubs, workshops, shelter tours, and most popular of all, summer camp. SHARE a Book provides canine reading partners at schools and libraries. Children also have the opportunity to celebrate their birthday at the Marin Humane Society! Through our programs we bring the message of teaching compassion and respect, while giving children the opportunity to benefit from the humane companion animal bond.
