The Pet Care Assistance program is the largest part of SHARE and assists 228 low-income seniors (and their more than 300 companion animals) and others in need with pet food deliveries, transportation to the veterinarian, dog walking, pet grooming, litter box maintenance and emergency boarding of pets in the event of a client’s hospitalization. Networking with other service organizations in the county is vital to coordinating assistance to the growing number of older adults in Marin.
The Pet Care Assistance program is funded entirely by donations and grants and supported by more than 20 program volunteers. Donations of pet food and supplies as well as financial contributions from the public are a vital part of the program. Volunteers with our Pet Meals on Wheels program deliver these donated supplies to clients of the Pet Care Assistance program and other needy individuals year-round.
The Pet Care Assistance program also conducts Special Adoptions that enable individuals who cannot come to the Marin Humane Society's adoption department the opportunity to bring a pet into their lives. In-home interviews and adoption counseling are provided and an appropriate pet is matched with the individual.

Can the SHARE program help me?
SHARE’s Side-by-Side program provides assistance to Marin County residents who are low-income seniors and others in need. For people who don’t qualify for the SHARE program, we have information about financial assistance for pet guardians and emergency veterinary assistance.
