The MHS Canine Behavior Academy (CBA) is a 10-week, 40-hour course offered twice a year for busy people who would like to become professionals in the dog training world or who just want to learn more about the animals that accompany us through our lives.
Led by Trish King, the academy stresses practical information delivered in a relaxed but engaging atmosphere. Classes include lecture, video and demonstrations with dogs. Student’s dogs are welcome to attend most class sessions.
The syllabus includes the basics of:
- Canine ethology
- Social theory
- Body language
- Behavior evaluations
- Safe handling
- Learning theory
- Equipment usage
- Training exercises
- Behavior problems and modification techniques
- Beginning level consulting
Trish has been a professional in the animal world for over 20 years. As Director of the Behavior & Training Department at the Marin Humane Society for 23 years, she built a department known throughout the United States for its quality. Trish established the Canine Behavior Academy at MHS for new or interested trainers. She continues to teach workshops and seminars on behavior, canine management, temperament assessment, and handling difficult dogs, among other topics.

This Academy is a continuation of CBA Level 1 with more in depth work on behavior medication, behavior consultations, evaluations and breed specific issues. For graduates of CBA I only.
