The Marin Humane Society’s annual collection of pet supplies for pets of low-income seniors is underway! Your donations of pet food, toys and treats will be used to fill gift bags for the Humane Society’s SHARE program clients as well as for local human needs organizations. Of particular need are cans and SMALL bags of cat and dog food or gift cards to purchase pet food and supplies.
Funded entirely by donations and grants, the SHARE pet care assistance program has been assisting Marin’s low-income senior pet guardians for more than twenty years. Along with pet food deliveries, eighteen program volunteers provide transportation for veterinary appointments, and assist clients with dog walking, cleaning litter boxes, and administering medications.
Thanks to the SHARE pet care assistance program, 232 low-income seniors and their more than 300 companion animals have ongoing access to pet food, veterinary care, home visits, and emergency boarding. In addition, the SHARE program also provides one-time assistance to an additional 20-30 people every month.
Clients like Cynthia of San Rafael (pictured above) are grateful for the assistance they have received from the SHARE pet care assistance program. Living on a fixed income has made it difficult for Cynthia to provide for her beloved cat, Coleman. “I can’t thank the Marin Humane Society enough for all they have done for me and Coleman. The SHARE program has put my mind, heart and pocketbook at ease. All I have to do is add the love!”
Donations may be delivered to the Marin Humane Society (171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd., Novato). Financial contributions are also welcome and will be used to purchase additional gift items. Holiday deliveries will be made in mid-December, but donations for the SHARE program are accepted year-round. Financial contributions can be made by mailing a check to the address above, online or by calling 415.506.6259.
