While reduced adoption fees are a relatively new concept for our community, they are not a new concept in animal welfare. In fact, there have been several test cases, studies done and examples of how it can be one effective tool in the toolbox for raising awareness as well as increasing adoptions. These studies have shown that waiving or significantly reducing adoption fees does not devalue the animals or the adoption agency in the adopter's mind, and does not dictate the quality of home or care that the adopter will provide.
Our current adoption process will remains the same. Adopters are still required to complete an adoption survey and consult with our adoption counselors. The process for evaluating animals will also remain the same. There will be no new restrictions on the animals we can place for adoption, and no time limits will be placed on animals.

Note: Marin County residents will be charged a separate license fee for dogs over four months of age.
